2025 New Year’s Resolutions for Online Educators (Part 2)

In last week’s article, we explored eight potential goals for online teachers and tutors to consider tackling in 2025. If you missed it, click here to check it out.

This week, we’re diving into eight more New Year’s resolutions to inspire you to become a better educator. Remember, it’s better to focus on just a few achievable goals rather than overwhelm yourself with too many. Choose 1-5 goals from the 16 we’ve shared between the two articles, or create your own.

Writing your goals down is key, as seeing them in front of you helps turn intentions into action. After all, you can’t hit a target you can’t see!

Here are eight more resolutions to consider as you plan for a successful 2025 as an online educator:

1) Find a way to make your teaching life easier.

Whether it’s automating administrative tasks, streamlining lesson planning, or using time-saving tools, identify strategies to simplify your workload and reduce stress. Explore apps and online resources that can save time and effort. Simplifying your processes gives you more energy to focus on teaching and connecting with your students.

2) Get more frequent feedback from students.

Regular feedback helps you understand what’s working and what needs adjustment. Use surveys, exit tickets, or informal conversations to gather insights from your students. Encourage honest and constructive feedback, and show students that their input is valued by implementing their suggestions when feasible. This fosters a sense of collaboration and mutual respect in the classroom.

3) Revamp your daily routine.

Small changes to your daily schedule can have a big impact. Consider starting your day with a mindfulness exercise, prioritizing tasks, or setting clear boundaries to create a more balanced workflow. Reflect on your current routine and identify areas for improvement, such as better time management or incorporating moments for reflection and self-assessment.

4) Attend professional development programs.

Continuous learning is essential for growth. Look for workshops, conferences, or online courses that align with your interests and goals. Engaging in professional development not only expands your skillset but also provides opportunities to connect with like-minded educators and gain fresh inspiration.

5) Read more books and inspire a love of reading in your students.

Rediscover the joy of reading and share it with your students. Cultivating a love for learning unlocks countless benefits, as strong literacy skills empower students to learn new things on their own. Incorporate literature into your lessons, if possible, and highlight diverse authors and genres to expose students to different perspectives. Your enthusiasm for reading can inspire them to see books as gateways to knowledge and discovery.

6) Bring more practical skills into the classroom.

Equip your students with life skills like critical thinking, communication, and financial literacy. These practical lessons can prepare them for success beyond academics. Incorporate activities like role-playing real-world scenarios, collaborative problem-solving, or hands-on projects to help students allow their knowledge in meaningful ways.

7) Improve your communication skills.

Whether it’s teaching a class, communicating with parents, or dealing with admin, the teaching profession is highly communication-based. Focus on refining your ability to explain concepts clearly, manage classroom discussions effectively, and actively listen to your students. Get better at writing emails to parents and having discussions with the admin. Consider taking communication workshops or practicing strategies for public speaking and conflict resolution.

8) Celebrate the small wins and treat yourself.

Teaching is a journey filled with challenges and triumphs. Recognize your achievements, no matter how small and reward yourself for the hard work you do every day. Whether it’s enjoying a favourite treat, taking a day off to relax, or reflecting on your profession, celebrating milestones keeps you motivated and reminds you of the impact you have on your students.
